Introducing Kiyavaa: Making Self-Learning Easier for Students

Kiyavaa is a student-focused self-learning platform from ActionLab that helps Maldivian IGCSE students revise with structure, track progress, practise effectively, and get AI-guided support, making independent learning clearer, manageable, and confidence-building during exam preparation periods.
As students across the Maldives prepare for their IGCSE examinations, revision becomes an increasingly important part of everyday life.
But one of the biggest challenges students face is not always what to study. Sometimes, it is simply knowing where to begin.
With a syllabus full of topics, limited time before examinations, past papers to practise, and different areas of understanding to strengthen, independent revision can quickly feel overwhelming.
That is one of the reasons I created Kiyavaa, a student-focused self-learning platform from ActionLab, designed to make revision clearer, more structured, and more motivating.
Helping students know what to do next
Kiyavaa is built around a simple idea:
Meaningful progress comes from small, consistent steps.
Instead of opening a textbook or syllabus and wondering where to start, students can use Kiyavaa to see where they are in their learning journey, choose an area to work on, continue from where they left off, and gradually build confidence.
The aim is to make self-learning feel manageable.
A student does not need to think about mastering an entire subject in one sitting. They can begin with one objective, one topic, one question, or one revision session — and build from there.
A more structured approach to revision
Kiyavaa brings different parts of the revision process into one learning space.
Students can explore syllabus objectives, search for topics, review key learning notes, practise questions, and receive guidance as they work.
The Revision Hub is designed to help students focus on one area at a time. A revision session can begin with warm-up questions, move into key notes and concepts, and then progress towards exam-style practice.
This gives students a clearer path through their revision instead of leaving them to decide, every time they sit down to study, what they should do next.
Support when students get stuck
Independent learning does not mean students should have to figure everything out alone.
Kiyavaa includes an AI Tutor that gives students a place to ask questions, request explanations, and work through concepts they find difficult.
The intention is not simply to provide answers.
Students should be able to ask, “Why does this work?”, “Can you explain this another way?” or “Help me understand where I went wrong.”
Used well, AI can support the learning process by helping students explore ideas at their own pace and focus on understanding rather than memorising answers.
Making progress visible
Another important part of Kiyavaa is helping students see that the work they are doing is adding up.
Students can keep track of:
Their overall mastery progress
Syllabus objectives they have completed
Topics they are currently working on
Suggested areas to study next
Revision activities
Practice questions and papers
Seeing progress matters.
When a large syllabus is broken into smaller objectives, students can see what they have already achieved as well as what still needs attention. That can make examination preparation feel much more achievable.
Supporting teachers, not replacing them
Kiyavaa is not designed to replace teachers.
Teachers remain central to helping students understand concepts, develop skills, receive feedback, and grow as learners.
Kiyavaa is intended to complement that work by giving students a useful learning space outside the classroom — somewhere they can revise independently, identify gaps in their understanding, practise more, and continue learning at their own pace.
For students preparing for IGCSE examinations, the goal is to bring syllabus learning, revision support, practice activities, opportunities to work through problems, progress tracking, and AI-guided help together in one place.
Building confidence one topic at a time
Examination preparation can sometimes make students feel that there is simply too much to learn.
I would like Kiyavaa to help change that feeling.
Learning should not feel like opening a textbook, looking at hundreds of pages, and wondering what to do next.
It should feel achievable.
Start with one topic.
Understand one idea.
Attempt a few questions.
Learn from a mistake.
Then take the next step.
Over time, those small steps become progress — and progress builds confidence.
That is what I hope Kiyavaa can support for students in the Maldives as they prepare for their examinations and develop the ability to learn more independently.
Small steps. More confidence. Better learning.

I welcome students, parents, teachers and educators to explore the platform, try it out, and share their feedback as we continue developing Kiyavaa.
